Term 2 News Update

Hello readers,

Welcome back to a new term. Our names are Nelia and Amelie, and we will be filling you in on what has been happening so far in Term 2. We are now in Week 4 and we have learnt many things in the areas of of Literacy, Maths, Science and HASS.

During our Literacy lessons this week we have been focusing on the suffixes –ion and –ness and the many rules that go with them. There are four rules for adding ‘ion’ and one rule for adding ‘ness’. In reading we’ve been looking at how character traits (for example: bossy, smart, shy, tall, etc) are revealed in narrative texts. In writing, we have been learning how to write a quest narrative using characterisation.

In addition to Literacy is Mathematics. In Measurement, we have been focusing on prism’s and pyramid’s and their differences to each other. We have also been drawing different 3D shapes and expanding our knowledge on their features (such as vertices, edges and faces). In number, we have learnt the method for using long division to solve problems.

In Science we’ve started an investigation. The investigation is about how a sweet pea seed grows when watered with salt water, soda water and normal water. Each morning we come into the class and take turns with our partner to water the plants with the type of water we chose in our hypothesis. We then record the results from that day in our science book writing how much it has grown, the amount we watered it, the day, and the date.

Lastly HASS. In Geography we’ve been learning about the worlds largest continent, Asia. This is important because Asia makes up 1/3 of the Earth. We have learnt about how the continent is devised into 6 geographical divisions.

Thank you for reading,

Amelie and Nelia (on behalf of Room 25)
